Duties of Planning and Research department

  1. Conduct research on the various aspects of the Nigeria Population
  2. Undertake studies designed to improve and standardize demographic data collection in Census and Surveys e.g historical event.
  3. Co-ordinate, compile and collate research activities on Population dynamics in universities, polytechnics, research institutions and other bodies.
  4. Initiate, organize and supervise technical workshops, seminars and conferences on Population matters.
  5. Analyse, interprete and evaluate the quality of the data collected during censuses and survey.
  6. Establish, maintain and liaise with Universities, research institutions and other organizations within and outside the Country on Population matters.
  7. Devise methods for the collection and analysis of Population related issues with other relevant bodies.
  8. Initiate and release periodic publications
  9. Design, co-ordinate, implement and supervise both short and long term training programmes (foreign) for all categories of technical staff in the Commission.
  10. Disseminate specialist information on Population Censuses, Survey and date, to research institutions, individual researchers, Governments and the public.
  11. Establish a data bank to facilitate the storage and utilization of Population related data
  12. Print and distribute technical publications on Population.
  13. Plan Programmes, monitor and review the implementation of Commission's programmes
  14. Development of priorities and operational plans for Population related matters.
  15. Preparation, updating of rolling Plans and perspective plans.
  16. Involve in bilateral and multilateral co-operations of Population matters with relevant Government and non-governmental organization.
